For now, it has at least satisfied my curiosity and hopefully benefit others. I felt my LEDs could stand to be raised up a bit, but can’t seem to find any adjustment screws and feel they are absent because there are motors that automatically adjust horizontal and vertical alignment and also controls the dynamic light bending feature when driving.Īt some point, I would like to repeat the comparison with the beams aimed against a vertical wall which should provide better comparison of both height and width. However, the HIDs have a very aggressive foreground limiter which creates a shadow very near the car. This is likely why I felt the HIDs had better overall illumination. HID cut-off was higher and beam was wider compared to the LED, which results in superior side to side illumination and down road distance. I would estimate it to be around 5000K which is a pretty close match to the OEM LEDs.īeam pattern was clearly different between the two.

The 5500K HID bulbs are being overdriven, so the color temp is slight warmer. I was surprised the hot spots were fairly similar, and in fact the LED slightly edged out the HIDs. Also, the HIDs cut off is not quite level for both left and right sides. Disclaimer: these measurements were not done under ideal conditions and would be better if the beams were aimed against a vertical surface. I only captured one representative photo for this and did not compare high beams as my HIDs did not have the high beam function connected. I used a lux meter to measure relative low beam output at the hottest part of each beam. Now I was able to finally do a side by side comparison of the two.īoth vehicles were parked on a level service and aimed at the small hill directly across the street with the HIDs on the left and LEDs on the right. After driving the 2018 for about a month, I felt the headlight output was both less and not as wide than my HIDs.

I was curious how the output and beam pattern compared against my newly acquired 2018 Sonata Limited running stock LED. The HID H1 bulbs offer up to three times more road coverage than the LED. Besides being energy efficient and brighter than traditional lights, they have several other benefits you can't get with a halogen bulb. When it comes to rating these three classes or types of H1 bulbs according to their brightness level, the HID comes first, followed by LED. Whether you are upgrading your h1 led bulb for a projector headlight or simply looking to improve your nighttime vision, LED bulbs are a perfect choice. After getting my 2013 Sonata back on the road with a new engine, I reinstalled my modded headlights that had been retrofitted with Morimoto Mini H1 7.0 projectors running 5500K Morimoto H1 HID bulbs and powered by Hylux 45W ballast. H1 bulbs are available as Halogen, LED, and HID.
